McTimoney

“After having a broken wrist wired back together, Kay with McTimoney, was able to give me more freedom of movement with the joint than I achieved through physiotherapy.”  H G

"I am a patient of Kay’s for approximately 20 years, she has treated me for various problems i.e. back, neck shoulders, feet etc. Kay is an excellent Chiropractor and has helped me at all times – I dread to think to whom I would turn to if she was not around."  M W

McTimoney and Brain Gym®

“I have been receiving McTimoney treatment from Kay McCarroll for about last 10 years, ever since I first went to her for relief from sciatic pain, having read an article about her in a health magazine. That first treatment session totally relieved my pain and since then I have a 2-monthly basis treatment, to keep my body aligned, as I spend much of my time at a desk, writing notes on the computer. Kay is an extremely professional, experienced, conscientious, empathetic practitioner, who has used her kinesiology and psychotherapy expertise on me – when relevant – to significant effect. Kay has a gentle but firm touch. She also suggested Brain Gym when, as a mature student, I was studying for my exams as a Nutrition Practitioner and I found the exercise very beneficial. As a practising Nutrition Practitioner and Iridologist, since 2000, I recommend McTimoney and Kay to a large number of my patients, from who I have very positive feedback. I have also recommended Kay and Brain Gym for certain child patients with learning problems."  H J

This holistic method can have a beneficial effect on a wide range of conditions as well as neck and back pain.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a straight forward method of assessing the bones and muscles to maintain the correct posture of the spine. Our day-to-day activities, poor posture, accidents and illness may cause discomfort, stiffness or pressure on the nerves. Chiropractic treatment may relieve pain and discomfort and increase mobility.

At Hendon Natural Health Centre we use the McTimoney Technique

It is the gentleness of the technique and the treatment of the whole body that distinguishes the McTimoney method from other manipulative therapies. The speed and the precision of adjustment make it a relatively gentle and relaxing treatment to receive.

The McTimoney method of Chiropractic is named after its originator John McTimoney who developed this gentle, whole body approach from existing Chiropractic techniques.  Low-force, fast, precise adjustments help realign the individual bones of the skeleton, allowing the nervous system to work as well as it possibly can.  The key to the success of these adjustments is the speed, dexterity and accuracy with which they are performed.  McTimoney Chiropractic has been found helpful for thousands of people for over 30 years and it is growing by nearly 150,000 new patients per year.  Over 8,000 people are treated with McTimoney Chiropractic each day.

A survey revealed that 89% of people undergoing McTimoney chiropractic are very or extremely satisfied with their treatment (MCA, Patient Survey, 2004).

What can it help?

These conditions can benefit from treatment:

  1.   Back neck and shoulder problems

  2.   Headaches

  3.   Muscular aches and pains

  4.   Joint Stiffness

  5.   Leg pain

  6.   Whiplash associated disorders

It is especially helpful for pregnant mothers, to help with a sense of physical ease and any pelvic misalignments or stresses.  It is also a wonderful treatment for babies after the intensity of the birth process and in the first months of life - they can often be seen visibly relaxing during treatment, enjoying the feeling of renewed body comfort. Babies can also benefit by the correction of any misalignments that may have occurred during the birth process and the chiropractors are happy to carry out checks for this.

What will happen on your first consultation?

A full case history is taken followed by any relevant orthopaedic or neurological tests.  Your chiropractor will examine your joints and explain what treatment is appropriate.  A treatment plan will be advised, this may include exercise.

How many treatments?

This depends on many factors these include:

  1.   How long you have had symptoms.

  2.   How old you are and your general health.

  3.   How many injuries have you had.

Typically between two and six sessions over a three month period.

Who can be treated?

Most people can be treated including:

  1.   Babies and children of all ages

  2.   Pregnant women after the first three months

  3.   The elderly

The consultation process is designed to indicate if it is appropriate to refer someone for other medical screening.

Chiropractic does not involve the use of drugs or surgery.  It originated in 1895 in the USA and is one of the largest healthcare professions in the world.

How McTimoney Chiropractic is accredited
